چکیده

This paper employs a 3D hp self-adaptive grid-refinement finite element strategy for the solution of a particular electromagnetic waveguide structure known as Magic-T. This structure is utilized as a power divider/combiner in communication systems as well as in other applications. It often incorporates dielectrics, metallic screws, round corners, and so on, which may facilitate its construction or improve its design, but significantly diíñcult its modeling when employing semi-analytical techniques. The /z/7-adaptive finite element method enables accurate modeling of a Magic-T structure even in the presence of these undesired materials/geometries. Numerical results demónstrate the suitability of the /z/7-adaptive method for modeling a Magic-T rectangular waveguide structure, deliveríng errors below 0.5% with a limited number of unknowns. Solutions of waveguide problems delivered by the self-adaptive hp-FEM are comparable to those obtained with semi-analytical techniques such as the Mode Matching method, for problems where the latest methods can be applied. At the same time, the /z/7-adaptive FEM enables accurate modeling of more complex waveguide structures.

A hp-adaptive discontinuous Galerkin method for plasmonic waveguides

In this paper we propose and analyse a hp-adaptive discontinuous finite element method for computing electromagnetic modes of propagation supported by waveguide structures comprised of a thin lossy metal film of finite width embedded in an infinite homogeneous dielectric. We propose a goal-oriented or dual weighted residual error estimator based on the solution of a dual problem that we use to ...

Parallel hp-Finite Element Simulations of 3D Resistivity Logging Instruments

We simulate electromagnetic (EM) measurements obtained by using one transmitter and one receiver antenna in a borehole environment. The measurements are used to assess electrical properties of rock formations. We have started from a problem where logging instruments as well as rock formation properties are assumed to exhibit axial symmetry around the axis of a vertical borehole. The initial com...

Adaptive Electromagnetic Field Analysis for Axisymmetric Structure and Uniform Waveguide Using the Finite Element Method

An analysis of the electromagnetic field based on adaptive finite element is presented in this paper. The performance of the adaptive algorithms, based on an element-element h-refinement technique, is assessed. The features of the refinement indictors, adaptation criteria and error estimation parameters are discussed. The strategy of the adaptive mesh refinement method applied to the eigenvalue...

Parallel simulations of 3 d DC borehole resistivity measurements with goal - oriented self - adaptive hp finite element method

In this paper we present a parallel algorithm of the goal-oriented self-adaptive hp Finite Element Method (hp-FEM) with shared data structures and with parallel multi-frontal direct solver. The algorithm generates in a fully automatic mode (without any user interaction) a sequence of meshes delivering exponential convergence of the prescribed quantity of interest with respect to the mesh size (...

Parallel Self-Adaptive hp Finite Element Method Algorithm with Shared Data Structure

In this paper we present a new parallel algorithm of the self-adaptive hp Finite Element Method (hp-FEM) with shared data structures. The algorithm generates in a fully automatic mode (without any user interaction) a sequence of meshes delivering exponential convergence of the prescribed quantity of interest with respect to the mesh size (number of degrees of freedom). The sequence of meshes is...
